Marketing on Internet Forums

Posted by artwebster on Sep 14, 2009 in About Advertising
  1. When on the forum the number one rule is to be friendly, courteous, and helpful.

Now your first month on the forum should be kind of like the first month in a new school.  Take your time finding all the clicks and doing your best to not screw up.  In this school the preppy good kids who make friends with the teachers (forum admin) will be the ones who will have the most leeway when advertising.  If a moderator or well respected member of the community leaves a link to their site usually the forum admin will let it slide as long as the link pertains to the subject material.  This is key to getting direct traffic from a forum and is a very good reason to be in forums that have pertain to your web presence.  Personally I own a website marketing blog and because of this I spend countless hours within v7n and DP looking through all the new posts answering and asking questions and trying my best to give the best content possible.

Now this will help get visitors, but it is not the only way.  Most forums allow you to add a signature where you will be allowed to leave links to your web presences and this can help both get visitors through clicks as well as help your placement in the Search Engine Results Pages or SERPs.  Links are definitely the only factor to consider when trying to rank well in Google or others, but should be taken into considerations since they are the deciding placing factor of websites that represent the same content.  Now you need to learn BB code and to do this all you need to type into Google is either learn BB code or BB code tag list both of these will bring up websites very useful in giving you the tools necessary to learn how to take full advantage of your forum usage.

One thing I want to make clear is never use a forum to spam this is all too common and the reason there are so many moderators on forums is to ban people who spam.  Keep the conversation active on the same topic and try to spend time each and every day in your niches forum learning about all the new things happening.  Anyway I hope you found this article active.

I Hate Internet Marketing

Posted by artwebster on Jun 30, 2009 in About Advertising

You probably clicked on a link hoping the title was a coy for me telling you the secrets of website marketing.  Well I hate to disappoint you since I have actually learned the truth about what it takes to succeed online.  Daily my email box is filled with questions about my success and I answer each one the same way which is to work harder online then you have at any other jobs and you may possibly move up in the SERPs.  Why do I say possibly? Well it really doesn’t matter which niche (category of website) that you pick there will always be competition.  So how do you beat those that have already set up their web presence.  The only way to beat those you are in your niche is to out market them and creating content which visitors will find more useful which in the case of my niches make money and website marketing is extremely difficult.  There are many different ways to market and I like to break down internet marketing into two categories which are increasing exposure/branding and link building.

The worst of the two is link building, this is the most draining part of being a webmaster.  Let me give you an example when link building one way to increase the number of backlinks to your web presence is through directory submission and to see any real increase within the SERP’s you must submit your website to thousands, which by the way I have personally done and felt the mind numbing process of going from directory to directory thousands of times in the hope that they will accept me.  Did it pay off and am I getting paid right now for my web marketing efforts well the short answer is yes, but the time my friends, the time.  It took me approximately one minute to successfully submit my website to a directory half a minute when using directory submission software.  Now I submitted my website to about 4 thousand directories of course in the attempt to gain 4 thousand one way backlinks.  So I spent at most 4 thousand minutes going from directory to directory in the submission process which is 66 hours and since I market online about 12 hours daily equals a 5 days of straight directory submission.

Now this is of course only one example I do the same when it comes to article writing, blog commenting, social bookmarking, seo, and other website marketing techniques.  I just wanted to use this example of why I would despise internet marketing.  After I respond to emails asking me about my success with I hate internet marketing and explain the time it takes to succeed online the next question is “why do you do it?”.  Well this one is pretty simple to explain.  First and foremost I love the money if you are willing to grind out 50 thousand backlinks over a few months and come up with some excellent content on your website and/or blog then by using Google’s adsense alone you will be able to pull in 30k a year.  The second reason I really enjoy being a full-time webmaster is the freedom (kinda).  I choose when, how much, and where to work.  Now the reason kinda is after freedom is I have the same responsibility as those that work full time in the real world.  In other words if I take a week off or only put in a couple hours daily then I offer my position within the SERPs to my competitors who to me seem like robots working 24 hours daily building backlinks.  So do I have freedom yes and no if I choose not to work then I begin losing money the same as any job.

Anyway I just wrote this for those who may be thinking of becoming a full time webmaster or blogger.  Do not think it is all fun and no work for tons of money.  Become a millionaire online? It is very possible with the right work ethic, willingness to learn, and dedication, but will be very difficult.  Really becoming rich online will take the same amount of work as going to school for a degree and becoming rich that way I guess you really have to love being online to do what I do.

Marketing In Web 2.0

Posted by artwebster on Jun 21, 2009 in About Advertising

Well it is safe to say the old static websites are becoming a thing of the past and for those who really count on the web to make money online are realizing that they need to move forward and incorporate interactivity into their websites.  Before we get into how to market with Web 2.0 websites we must first understand the definition of Web 2.0. The basic description of Web 2.0 is the transformation of the web from a static server bases network to an interactive virtual world where the users now consist of anyone that has an internet connection rather than only those who new programming.  So how can the old webmasters keep up with this ever changing world of online marketing mediums.  Really it is simple you must first join the many out their utilizing all of them in your marketing campaign and at the same time be actively looking for new ones coming out.  First I would like to cover the major websites that anyone trying to market online should be affiliated with.

The next type of website that every webmaster and blogger should be utilizing in the world of web 2.0 is social bookmarking.  Websites such as digg.com and stumbleupon.com offer webmasters the chance to suggest websites to a community and receive both a backlink to their website and if their website is interesting or useful enough to the community voting the chance to reach the top page of the social bookmarking website which in turn will get you tons of referral traffic from the social bookmarking website.  This is an excellent place to announce the launch of a new web presence and I have found it just as useful as press releases.  Really they both do the same thing the only difference is the social bookmarking is its own platform where you will find exposure and press releases rely on your website being picked up by news sources by reporters.  I guess both you should be fitting in to your marketing campaign.

The last type of Web 2.0 that I will be discussing for this article is social networking which tend to be used by internet marketers as networking platforms rather than marketing mediums. When you build a website it is crucial to have interactivity between you and your visitors as well as you and potential partners within your niche.  Myspace.com, facebook.com, and twitter.com have made this extremely easy just set up your account listing the URL’s of your web presences and talk about each one.  You can also talk about upcoming projects and updates really anything that has already happened and anything upcoming make for excellent content on these resources.  Note that these should not be used for promotion, but rather a place for communication.
